Frequently Asked Questions

At Deliciaedax, we believe transparency builds trust. Below you’ll find answers to the questions we’re most often asked about our Dachshunds, our puppies, and our process.

Q: Where are you based?

We are located on the Durham coast, in the North East of England. Our dogs live in our home, as family members, not in kennels.

Q: Do you ship puppies overseas?

No. We do not ship our puppies abroad under any circumstances. All of our puppies are homed within the UK, and we expect families to collect their puppy in person on handover day.

This allows us to meet you face-to-face, ensure a smooth transition, and give you time to go through paperwork, feeding, and care with us before you leave. It’s important to us that every Deliciaedax puppy goes directly from our arms into yours.

Q: Can we visit the puppies?

For the safety and wellbeing of our puppies and as a biosecurity measure we do not allow visits until the day they are ready to go home. Young puppies have developing immune systems, and unnecessary visitors put them at risk of illness and stress.

Instead, we keep in close contact with our approved families. You will receive personal weekly updates, photos, and milestone reports (such as when eyes open, first tastes of food, playtime, and exploring). This way, you can still be part of your puppy’s journey as they grow  and by the time collection day arrives, you’ll already feel deeply connected.

Q: How often do you have litters?

We only plan a very small number of litters each year - usually just once or twice. Our girls are our family first, and their health and happiness always come before breeding plans. This means every litter is carefully considered, lovingly raised, and has our full attention.

Because of this, our puppies are often reserved in advance through our waiting list. We don’t breed to meet demand, we breed with intention, and only when the time, the pairing, and the family homes are right.

Q: Do you sell puppies for breeding?

No. All of our puppies leave endorsed (not for breeding). This means their Kennel Club paperwork carries restrictions that prevent them from being bred from. We believe breeding should only ever be done with the right knowledge, testing, and dedication to the breed - never casually or for financial gain.

Q: How much are your puppies?

Our puppies are usually priced from around £2,000. The price reflects the level of care and preparation that goes into each puppy - from health testing, imported champion lines, and responsible rearing, to the socialisation and one-to-one time we dedicate to raising happy, confident little Dachshunds. We do not cut corners, and our price reflects our commitment to the breed.

Q: What colours do you breed?

At Deliciaedax, we aim to breed within the Kennel Club recognised colours for longhaired Miniature Dachshunds. In our programme, this includes:

  • Red & shaded red

  • Black & tan

  • Chocolate & tan

  • Dapple (in the above colours)

  • Creams and shaded creams

  • Brindles

All of our dogs are non-carriers of the dilution gene. This means we do not produce, and cannot produce, dilute colours such as isabella or blue. These dilute shades are associated with higher risks of coat and skin problems, and fall outside of our ethical breeding goals.

Our priority is always health, temperament, and sound structure, colour is a secondary consideration. We are proud to preserve only the traditional, standard-accepted colours that reflect the true Dachshund.

Q: What will my puppy leave home with?

Every Deliciaedax puppy leaves with a luxury puppy pack, thoughtfully designed to give them the smoothest start in their new home. This includes:

  • Kennel Club registration certificate (endorsed “not for breeding”)

  • Microchip, transferred into your name on collection

  • 5 weeks Kennel Club insurance for peace of mind

  • Copies of parents’ health testing results

  • Luxury Puppy Guide - a full booklet we’ve created covering feeding, training, toilet training, socialisation, and settling in

  • Diet sheet & food supply so you can continue their routine seamlessly

  • Comfort blanket carrying the scent of mum and littermates

  • Toys and enrichment items they are already familiar with

  • Signed contract of sale with lifetime support from us

Our puppy packs are designed to be more than just “essentials” -  they’re a reflection of the love, knowledge, and attention to detail we put into every puppy. Families often tell us it feels like opening a gift box, filled with everything they need to begin their journey.

Q: Do you keep in touch after puppies go home?

Always. Every Deliciaedax family has a place in our hearts. We stay in touch with personal support whenever you need it, and we also welcome you into our private “Deliciaedax Family” group where owners share updates and advice. Once you have one of our puppies, you’re part of our extended family for life.

Q: What happens on collection day?

When your puppy is ready (at 8+ weeks), we arrange a handover appointment. You’ll collect your puppy in person, meet with us to go over paperwork, feeding, and care, and of course enjoy your first cuddles. We’ll send you home with your puppy pack and be on hand for support as you settle them in.
